Les Petits Mouchoirs (2010)

Since last year when it was released, I've been hearing people (especially girls) talking about this movie so many times - mostly good opinions, so I started to get curious enough to give it a try.

And I finished watching it just 1 hour ago.

Well, is my heart made of stone or what. A girl I know said she "cried" in the cinema while watching it. And other girls also said it's a sad movie, so I thought I'd need a "mouchoir" (which means handkerchief, by the way) next to me while I'm watching it. I waited and waited for my eyes getting wet until the credits go up... et voila, my heart was still beating at the normal speed and my eyes were just the same. But NO! I'm not an emotionless person! (I still remember I cried until my eyes got super swollen when I watched Jeux Interdis (1952) or E.T. (1982), hahaha yes, E.T., but I was just a little kid when I watched it)

The thing is that this movie was a bit predictable. Just 10 or 15 mins after the beginning, it can be easily guessed what will be happening in the end. And the music! Alas! To me, it was just too much - I even felt some scenes were just added to use certain songs in the movie (I'm not saying the music itself was bad).

To me, it's a good movie to watch when you're looking for something not too special and something you can watch with anybody without getting bored.

Anyway, I guess it was good that I watched it alone while my husband is away for business trip, since he is really picky when it comes to movie (worse than I am, I'm nothing compared to him) and I instinctually know that he won't like this movie at all, haha.

25 May 2011 - Solitude Promenade

I just realized that I don't need to "sync" this blog with my Korean one - why should I? Okay, my idea at the beginning was doing so, but it's just pointless to translate from Korean to English and vice versa whenever I write one. So, from today, I'll keep my English blog alive in its own way. (yes, here goes the first post of the year 2011)

Basel, May 2011

There's a little (but nice) street called "Solitude Promenade" in Basel (Switzerland), which leads you to "Solitudepark" in the end. Solitude Promenade! What a nice name it is! It's on the northern bank of Rhein river (I actually don't know whether you should call it as 'northern bank' or 'right (or left?) bank', haha, so googlemap it if you're really curious) and it actually allows you to do a "promenade with solitude". The day I went there, I was not 'solitude' - I was with my husband. We were talking about everything and nothing without holding our hands - the weather was too warm to hold hands (plus, holding hands could annoy other bicyclers or joggers - now I see all people there were 'solitude' by ether riding bicycle or jogging, ha!).

Basel, May 2011

When you pass by "Solitudepark", there's Tinguely Museum (a beautiful building designed by Mario Botta, by the way). Did you know Niki de Saint Phalle was Tinguely's wife? (Me, I didn't know until that day, so when I saw her work in front of his fountain, I couldn't make any connection. No wonder that they did the amazing fountain near to Centre Pompidou together!)

My husband is away for business trip till Friday and, of course, the stupid volcano decided to cough up some ash into the sky right on time. I just wish the flight won't be canceled on Friday (Last year, when this thing happened, his manager was stranded in Norway almost for a week).

I watched 'Reality Bites (1994)' last night (it's called 'Génération 90' in French, haha) on tv (thanks to some English tv channels we ordered recently), an old movie (I cannot believe I should say "old" to such a movie made in 90s) which you can see Ben Stiller and Ethan Hawke look so young that you can understand why girls in my age used to worship Ethan Hawke so much back then. Anyway, watching that movie made me be 'nostalgic' - a life without internet, iPhone, or facebook, but still with a lot of things to do and much fun as well. Yes, I'm talking about 'me being nostalgic' by typing on my blog rather than listening to old songs or going through my old pictures... ha!
